For those of you that have stared at Cinema 4D’s Xpresso interface and asked yourself, “OK, now what?” I feel your pain. Like most things Cinema 4D it’s a little difficult to find a full and complete education on the inner workings of Xpresso. Well, I can’t help you. As an Xpresso novice I have only a rudimentary understanding of the complex node-based coding structure under Cinema 4D’s hood. I have however spent an awful lot of time doing tutorials and digging up information wherever information can be found. In this tutorial I offer up a little of my rudimentary knowledge by showing you how to tie some properties together with Xpresso and control those properties with User Data. It’s only a super simple light box but it’s a good introduction to basic Xpresso and just how much you can do with even the simplest of Xpresso concoctions. If you’re completely intimidated by that light grey grid and you have no idea where to start this is a good jumping off point for your education in Xpresso. Fair warning though; the tutorial is roughly 45 minutes. It’s my first long-form video for YouTube since I verified my account so be sure to let me know how I did. Enjoy.
